Week 14

I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful Thanksgiving!  We’re back to a normal routine, with a full week of school, and we’ll be diving into more Christmas service practice!

Math:
In math this week, we’ll be finishing up our module on three-digit numbers.  We’ve already counted by 1s, 5s, and 10s within 1,000, added and subtracted 10 and 100, and identifying and extending patterns.  This week we’ll be comparing three-digit numbers, using words and symbols.  We’ll do a practice test to review, and we’ll take our module test on Thursday.  On Friday, we’ll start our module on counting coins.

Language Arts:
We’ll be learning an important rule in English this week called the doubling rule.  You double the final consonant in a stressed syllable with a short vowel and one final consonant before adding a suffix that begins with a vowel (i.e., sadder, beginning).  If the suffix begins with a consonant, do not double the final consonant, and do not double the letter “x.”

Christian Studies:
This week in Christian Studies we’ll learn about how God uses leaders, despite their sinfulness.  We’ll briefly discuss David and Bathsheba, and then we learn about Solomon and his prayer for wisdom.

Reading:
In reading this week we’ll read a new story called The House on Maple Street.  This story has a unique structure, so we’ll discuss the story structure, the setting in the story, and the author’s purpose.

Social Studies:
We’ll start our unit on North America.  We’ll start off by making predictions about whether some statements are true or false.  Then we’ll learn about the countries in North America.  We’ll talk about bodies of water and landforms in North America, and then we’ll talk about how to use a landform map.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon in 2010 with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Professional Church Work. In May of 2014, Rebekah received her Master of Education degree from Heritage University. She started at Bethlehem in 2010. Rebekah is married to David, who works as a sales manager in the Tri-Cities area. She also has two daughters and a son. Fun fact: Rebekah is a mirror-image twin, meaning that she is right-handed and her identical twin is left-handed.
