Week 11

We have a short week ahead of us, but it's full!

Conference Sign Ups:
Check your email and Seesaw for the link to sign up for conferences.  Let me know if the times listed don't work for you and we can come up with another time!

Christian Studies:
This week we'll be learning about Othniel and how God continued to deliver His people, despite their disobedience and wickedness.  We'll also be learning about Ruth and God's faithfulness to her (and the connection she has to Jesus).

Math:
This week in math we'll be writing and reading number names.  We'll also be practicing different ways to write numbers and different ways to show numbers.  We'll be putting it all together to show, write, and read numbers in different ways.

Language Arts:
This week we'll be reviewing the spelling concepts we've been learning throughout the year.  This includes three-consonant blends, schwa, Bossy R (er, ir, ur), and the diphthongs we've learned (oi/oy, and ou/ow).  We'll be practicing the same 5 red words throughout the week, which will be the ones on the test on Thursday, and all of the words on the practice test will be on the test on Thursday.

Social Studies:
In Social Studies this week we'll continue our unit on location, discussing characteristics of urban, suburban, and rural communities.  We'll also talk about how to find locations on maps and globes.

STAR Tests:
We'll be taking the STAR test again this week, which will give the second graders their new AR levels (which will begin after Thanksgiving break).  I'll be reminding the kids to slow down, take breaks when needed, and do their best work so they can show the growth they've had in reading this year!

About Mrs. Picker

Mrs. Rebekah Picker grew up just across the river in Hermiston, Oregon. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon in 2010 with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education with a minor in Professional Church Work. In May of 2014, Rebekah received her Master of Education degree from Heritage University. She started at Bethlehem in 2010. Rebekah is married to David, who works as a sales manager in the Tri-Cities area. She also has two daughters and a son. Fun fact: Rebekah is a mirror-image twin, meaning that she is right-handed and her identical twin is left-handed.
