Week 35

We have an exciting week ahead of us!  We're leading chapel on Wednesday this week!  We hope you can join us on May 15 for chapel!  Chapel begins right after announcements, at about 8:40.

Christian Studies:
This week in Christian Studies lines up really well with our chapel message!  We're going to be talking about Paul's missionary journeys and how he shared God's Word with others, despite being imprisoned and persecuted.  We'll also talk about Paul at the Areopagus, when he saw that they had an altar to an unknown god and used that to open the door to talking about Jesus.

Math:
This week in math we'll be doing a quick module on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes.  We'll identify them and name them, and we'll identify features, such as faces, edges, and vertices.

Language Arts:
This week we'll be spelling words with another /oo/ sound (like in "put" and "took").  We'll spell them with "oo" and "u" and will practice various words with that sound.

Science:
This week in science we'll continue to talk about solids and liquids and how they change.  We'll examine wax and ways it changes, and we'll learn how jewelers can use wax and metal to make a necklace.

Social Studies:
We'll also start our last unit in Social Studies about why people work.  We'll discuss producers and consumers, and we'll talk about working to make money.

Reminder:  2nd Grade Leads Chapel Next Week!
Just a reminder that 2nd grade will be leading chapel next week, on Wednesday, May 15!  Chapel starts right after announcements at 8:35!

Math:
This week in math we'll be finishing up our module on measuring using inches, feet, and yards.  Then we'll move into fractions and geometry to finish off the year!

Language Arts:
This week we'll be examining words that say /oo/, spelled with the vowel teams "ew" and "oo."  We also have two new red words this week:  heard and thought.

Christian Studies:
We'll continue to learn about the early church this week, discussing Paul and Barnabas in Antioch, discussing how Gentiles are saved.  We'll also talk about Paul and Barnabas spreading God's Word.

Science:
This week in science we'll also be carrying out investigations to find the best material for a cold pack.  We'll talk about the scientific process and how to test our hypotheses.

Week 33

Springtime brings with it a busy season, both in school and outside of school!

Christian Studies:
This week in Christian Studies we'll be looking at Pentecost, when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to be with His people.  We'll also learn about a woman named Tabitha and how she was restored to life.  We'll discuss how she served God, and connect that to ways we can serve God.

Math:
This week in math we'll be measuring!  This week we're focusing on inches.  We'll also use our measurements to make line plots, and we'll finish off the week estimating lengths using feet.

Language Arts:
This week we're reviewing the concept of /k/ and /sh/ spelled with ch.  We'll practice using not only this spelling rule, but also the spelling rules we've already practiced this year to become stronger in this concept.

Chapel Skit!
2nd grade gets the chance to share a chapel message on Wednesday, May 15, so this week we'll be practicing out chapel skit!  We'll read through it and add some of the actions to it.  We're looking forward to sharing it with you on May 15!

Social Studies:
This week we'll also continue to work on our social studies unit on cultures.  We'll review what we've learned in our magazine, and we'll work on solidifying our understanding of the vocabulary through some activities together.  We'll take the test next week.
